At least eight people died, seven of them agricultural workers, and one more was injured when a van carrying farmworkers crashed into a pickup truck in California’s Central Valley on Friday morning, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported.
The accident occurred after 6 a.m. local time in the town of Madera, northwest of Fresno.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the fatal crash happened in Madera County near Road 22 and Avenue 7.
According to officers, a van and a van collided head-on. Authorities said the van had farmworkers inside who were headed to Lion Farms for work.
The sole survivor was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Three of the eight people who died in the accident have been identified.
They are Juvenal Jacobo Talavera, 24, from Michoacán, Mexico, Héctor Orozco, 34, from Jalisco, Mexico, and Alfredo Sánchez, from Mexico, according to ABC 7 in Los Angeles.
