Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis said Friday that he is not interested in running for vice president of the United States alongside Donald Trump in the 2024 general election.

DeSantis made the statement during a video call with at least 200 supporters and volunteers of his campaign and revealed that he is aware that there are comments about the possibility of him being the running mate with former President Trump.

Audio of the call was first obtained and reported by The New York Post.

“People mention me (as their vice president). “I’m not going to do that,” stated the current governor of Florida in the private video call, which occurred on Wednesday, ABC News reported.

The Republican governor also did not rule out running again for the 2028 presidential elections and said that “I think a lot of things happen in politics.”

Asked about the qualities that the vice presidential candidate should have, the governor pointed out that Trump’s team seems to be looking for the running mate on the basis of a “political identity,” which in his opinion is a mistake, and he said that they should Focus on finding the “who would be the best person for the job.”

Last month and after losing in the Iowa caucuses, DeSantis suspended his participation in the Republican primaries to choose the party’s nominee and expressed his support for Trump, the favorite in that race, although he has not campaigned for him. .

Trump told Fox News on Tuesday that DeSantis was a member a short list of vice president candidates.

However, the governor of Florida has not only distanced himself from that possibility but during the call he criticized the coverage of Trump by some conservative media, which seem like his “praetorian guard,” he said.

Trump “said that at some point he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose a vote. Well, I think he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and the conservative media wouldn’t even report on it,” DeSantis stated.

About 300 people were on the call, two sources who were on it told CNN. DeSantis made introductory remarks for about 10 to 15 minutes and then answered questions for about 45 minutes.
