Sampson Lewkowicz, promoter of David Benavídez, assured that the fight between Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez and the Mexican Monster It will not happen and he thinks that the legacy of the man from Guadalajara will be stained for avoiding facing the best opponent at 168 pounds.

In an interview with ProBox TV, Lewkowicz expressed that if Canelo Álvarez decides not to face Benavídez, official challenger for the World Boxing Council (WBC), will not become the best Mexican champion as you dream of being.

“No. I think it will not happen for several reasons. Sometimes people talk a little more and what they talk more about is that many say that the reason is that Benavídez wants to cash the check. He agreed with the first proposal, which Eddy (Reynoso) said there was not, but then it was confirmed that this proposal was legal and authorized by Showtime in the voice of Stephen Espinoza, we agreed that David was not going to win more than five million dollars, which he is winning in almost any fight, this shows that Benavídez gave the rest to him (Canelo) financially for the opportunity to show who is the best. Unfortunately they decided to fight with the first Charlo,” he said.

“He says he doesn’t fight with the Mexicans, but Munguía is at the plate… He doesn’t fight with Benavídez because his dad is a big mouth, he may be right, but it’s not a reason not to fight with the best. The rest of The story of Canelo Álvarez will be his legacy and his legacy will be stained because he did not fight the best at this moment that is Benavídez. I think that the children, maybe the grandchildren one day will ask him why he didn’t fight Benavídez, because he says that he wants the best fights and that’s it. (…) Canelo’s legacy will be stained and he will never become what he wants to be, the best champion Mexico ever had. Now, if he fights, it doesn’t matter if he wins or loses with Benavídez, his legacy will be for me the best in the history of Mexican boxing because he went to fight with the best, like Chávez, Márquez, Barrera did…” , he added.

It should be noted that Canelo Álvarez declared last week that his next rival for May 4 in Las Vegas would be an American and both Jaime Munguía and David Benavídez were ruled out as possible options.

For more than two years, Benavídez has sought in every possible way to attract the attention of the four-division Mexican champion, but has never had a response. Although fans and many experts in the sport would like to see this great fight, Canelo Álvarez He has not shown real interest and we will have to wait if, starting in March 2024, the Mexican finally fulfills his obligation. with the WBC and gives him the opportunity that Bandera Roja has sought so much.
