Director Christopher Nolan won the main award at the 76th edition of the Directors Guild of America Awards (DGA)’Oppenheimer’ was chosen best film of the year by Hollywood film directors at a ceremony held on Saturday in Los Angeles, which suggests that Christopher Nolan’s long wait to triumph at the Oscars could end soon.

Christopher Nolan won the top award at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) awards. “The idea that my colleagues think I deserve this means everything to me,” said the filmmaker, referring to his film about the invention of the atomic bomb. “I can’t leave the stage without making it clear to you how much this means to me, thank you very much,” said the director when receiving the medal from the 2023 winners, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

The other directors nominated by the DGA for this year’s top award were Martin Scorsese for “The Moon Killers,” Greta Gerwig for “Barbie,” Yorgos Lanthimos for “Poor Creatures” and Alexander Payne for “Those Who Remain.” .

The English director had been nominated four times previously for the top DGA award, for the films “Memento”, “The Dark Knight”, “Inception” and “Dunkirk”, but he failed to win in any of them. Upon receiving the highly acclaimed award, Christopher Nolan praised his crew for achieving his ambitious visions – including an astonishing reconstruction of the first atomic bomb test in history – throughout his successful career.

Christopher Nolan’s victory may give him hope of breaking another losing streak at the Oscars, where he was nominated five times without success. Eighteen of the last 20 DGA winners won the Oscar for best director that same year. This edition of the Hollywood Academy Awards will take place on March 10.

The 76th Directors Guild Awards (DGA) gala took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, after a difficult year for the industry that was heavily hit by the strikes of the Hollywood screenwriters and actors unions.
