Manchester City defeated Everton 2-0 with two goals from Erling Haaland that returns Pep Guardiola’s team to the top of the Premier League beating Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Erling Haaland finally managed to recover from a foot injury and scored his first two goals of 2024.

The Norwegian broke the tie in the 71st minute after a corner play in which he was left with the ball and with a right foot he opened the scoring at the Etihad Stadium.

14 minutes later, Kevin de Bruyne left Haaland in a one-on-one situation, who left his rival on the floor with a dribble and with a subtle left foot he beat the goalkeeper to give Manchester City the victory.

With these two goals, Haaland climbs to the top of scorers in the Premier League with 16 goals, two more than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who is injured after the Africa Cup of Nations.

Manchester City takes the lead from Liverpool

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City always improves at the beginning of the year and this time they began the comeback with six consecutive victoriess by Premier League and that made them surpass Liverpool in the table.

City reached 52 points in 23 games and is one point above Jurgen Klopp’s team that lost to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last week.

Pep Guardiola’s team will face Copenhagen this week in the UEFA Champions League and will return next week against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, a team that is not going through a good moment.
