Before the end of the year, three interesting films arrive in theaters: the biopic of Enzo Ferrari directed by Michael Mann, the new version of the musical “The Color Purple”the sports drama “The Boys in the Boat” by George Clooney; the prequel to “La Casa de Papel” on Netflix: “Berlin”; and the documentary “Time Bomb Y2K” in Max about the fear of a technological catastrophe with the arrival of the year 2000.

Ferrari

During the summer of 1957, former racing driver Enzo Ferrari (played by Adam Driver) is at his most difficult moment. The sports car company that he and his wife Laura (Penelope Cruz) built from scratch ten years earlier is on the brink of bankruptcy. The marriage is also in a deep crisis as they deal with the death of his son Dino a year earlier, at 14. At the same time, he is in a relationship with his lover Lina Lardi (Shailene Woodley).

At this crossroads, Ferrari will bet everything on a single thousand-mile race that crosses all of Italy, the popular and dangerous Mille Miglia in which the best car brands in the world compete.

This biopic of the Ferrari founder that can now be seen in theaters is directed by Michael Mann (“The Last of the Mohicans,” “Heat”) and is based on the 1991 book by Brock Yates: “Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races, the Machine.”

The Color Purple

New version of the classic musical from the 80s. Celie (Fantasia Barrino) is a young African-American woman in the South of the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. She along with her sister Nettie suffer the racism of the time and the abuse of her parents. After becoming pregnant, Celie is forced to give up the baby and marry a farmer, separating herself from her sister, with whom she is forbidden to communicate. Celie will try to reconnect with Nettie as time goes by. Already in cinemas.

The Boys in the Boat

George Clooney directs this sports drama about the University of Washington rowing team in the 1930s, from its beginnings in the harsh era of the Great Depression to the gold medal at the Berlin Olympics in 1936.

Berlin

One of the most popular characters from “La Casa de Papel” already has his own series, a prequel that Netflix premieres today. The plot focuses on a huge jewel robbery organized by Berlin (again played by Pedro Alonso) in Paris with the help of new characters: Damián (Tristán Ulloa), Cameron (Begoña Vargas), Roi (Julio Peña), Keila ( Michelle Jenner) and more. But we will see police officers Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri) and Raquel Murillo (Itziar Ituño) again.

The last days of 1999 were lived in fear of the greatest technological disaster known to date. The danger: that computers would confuse the year 2000 with 1900, creating chaos in all electronic systems. This HBO documentary made with archival material remembers that moment with testimonies from well-known faces such as Jeff Bezos, Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, and makes us think to what extent technology is a threat. From December 30 on Max.
