Authorities reported that a man who slipped on a San Diego cliffside and was trapped under broken concrete for several days He was released after a rescue that lasted several hours.
San Diego Fire-Rescue said in a news release that a group of officials responded to the Sunset Cliffs area around 3:40 p.m. local time Thursday for a report of a person trapped in a hole along the cliff.
The man was unharmed but He was trapped from the waist down in a crack along the cliffsaid San Diego Fire-Rescue.
The hole was approximately 18 inches in diameter, “which caused extreme difficulty in removing it,” rescuers said.
“The location of this rescue is very treacherous for both the rescuers and the patient,” San Diego Fire-Rescue added.
Technical rescue team members from San Diego Fire-Rescue and the Chula Vista Fire Department worked to free the man for several hours until the tide began to rise.
The man was given electrolytes, hot packs and blankets and an engine company stayed with him throughout the night until rescue efforts could resume Friday morning as the tide went out, authorities said.
Crews were able to free the man from the hole around 11 a.m. Friday.according to footage of the rescue from San Diego ABC affiliate KGTV.
Following the rescue, the man was taken to an area hospital for further evaluation. However, no details of his identity or current condition were given.
Crews on the scene told KGTV that the man reported being stranded for at least three days before someone heard his calls for help on Thursday.
A few weeks ago, authorities reported that Hiker’s legs trapped for at least seven hours under roughly 10,000-pound rock in the Inyo Mountains of California, until he was finally rescued.
With the help of a helicopter California Highway Patrol Central Air Operations Division and sheriff’s office, two rescue team members were able to reach the hiker beneath the Santa Rita deck and found him “in great pain,” Inyo County Search and Rescue said in a statement posted to Facebook.
His left leg became “trapped under a large rock on a steep hillside” that was estimated to weigh between 6,000 and 10,000 pounds, according to authorities.
Rescuers used a system of ropes, pulleys and levers to move the rock enough to free the hiker, and evaluate and stabilize your injuries. He was flown to Fresno for treatment.
