According to a video posted on social networks, Shohei Ohtani surprised the wife of a Dodgers pitcher with a Porsche as a gift for helping so that the Japanese star could have the number 17 on his jersey.
Ashley Kelly, wife of popular relief pitcher Joe Kelly, published a video on social media on Saturday in which it is seen that upon opening the door of her house she receives the news that The white Porsche parked a few meters away was a gift from Shohei Ohtani for her.
Ms. Kelly had advocated weeks ago for Ohtani to decide to join the Dodgers and her way of doing so was by offering through a social media campaign that the number 17, which previously belonged to her husband, would go to the star hitter who a couple of years ago weeks accepted a $700 million offer in what represents a new era of baseball in Los Angeles.
Ohtani wore No. 17 in his six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. He said upon his arrival to the Anaheim team that he wanted 27, but that was Mike Trout’s number.
She thanked Ohtani for the generous surprise in her Instagram post. In a previous post, Ashley Kelly had removed all of her husband Joe’s number 17 clothes from her house before drawing the number 99 on the Dodger reliever’s back..
Joe Kelly has been one of the best middle relief pitchers in the Major Leagues for several years and also became one of the favorites of Los Angeles fans for demonstrating his dislike for some Houston Astros players after the scandal of the stealing signs, even throwing balls at them and mocking some of them.
Ohtani’s arrival in Los Angeles shook baseball and the impact of his signing has been reflected in new signings for the Dodgers, including that of Japanese phenom Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who has accepted an impressive 12-year offer from the team. The signing is not yet official.
Ohtani stole looks at SoFi Stadium with everything and a Rams jersey
Shohei Ohtani was at SoFi Stadium on Thursday to watch the Los Angeles Rams’ game against the New Orleans Saints as a guest of honor.. The Rams gave him a team jersey with his name and No. 17, which is the same number as sensation rookie catcher Puka Nacua.
When Ohtani was shown on the stadium’s giant screens, he opened his jacket and showed the number 17 on his chest, while Nacua watched on the Rams bench and reacted with smiles. Ohtani came down to the Rams locker room at the end of the game to greet and congratulate coach Sean McVay and some players.
Shohei Ohtani has turned the Dodgers into big favorites for the MLB title in a matter of days despite the fact that in 2024 he will not be able to play as a pitcher due to elbow surgery a few months ago. His debut with the Dodgers is scheduled for March 20 in Seoul, capital of the Republic of Korea.
As the season arrives, Ohtani’s popularity increases in Southern California, even with some murals appearing, such as one in the coastal community of Hermosa Beach.
