One month after the complete list of nominees for the 96th edition of the Oscarsthe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the shortlisted films in ten categories.
These are the categories Documentary feature filmDocumentary short film, International feature filmMakeup and hair, Music (original score), Music (original song)Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film and Visual and Sound Effects.
Barbie, by Greta Gerwig; Poor Creatures, by Yorgos Lanthimos; The Moon Killers, by Martin Scorsese, and Oppenheimer, by Christopher Nolan, were the films with the most mentions among the finalists.
Greta Gerwig’s film topped the shortlist with five preliminary nominations, among which the original sound and song stand out for “What I Was Made For?”, by Billie Eilish; “Dance the Night”, by Dua Lipa, and “I’m Just Ken”, by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt.
For its part, Scorsese’s film received four preliminary nominationswhile The Color Purple, Oppenheimer and Poor Creatures won three each.
In the category of International feature film The Snow Society stands out as pre-candidates (Spain), Tótem (Mexico), Amerikatsi (Armenia), The Monk and the Gun (Bhutan), The Promised Land (Denmark), Fallen Leaves (Finland), The Taste of Things (France), The Teachers’ Lounge (Germany) ), Godland (Iceland), Io Capitano (Italy), Perfect Days (Japan), The Mother of All Lies (Morocco), Four Daughters (Tunisia), 20 Days in Mariupol (Ukraine) and The Zone of Interest (United Kingdom) .
When will the nominees be known?
Voting for the official nominations will take place between January 11 and 16 and The announcement will be made on the 23rd of the same month. The final vote will be from February 22 to 27 and the delivery of The 96th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 10.
Who will present the Oscars?
American television presenter Jimmy Kimmel will once again host the Oscarswhich will be held on March 10, 2024 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
Molly McNearney, his wife and co-writer of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, will also return to the gala as executive producer of that ceremony, which will be broadcast by ABC in more than 200 territories around the world.
Kimmel presented the gala in 2017 and 2018 and his return in 2023 coincided with the rebound in viewership experienced by the broadcast of those awards, which registered nearly 19 million viewers, according to data from the audience analysis company Nielsen.
Kimmel is one of the longest-serving talk show hosts in American television history. His last job hosting the Oscars, in 2023, earned him an Emmy nomination.
