A few days ago the cause of death was officially announced. Matthew Perryactor famous worldwide for his work in the television series “Friends”. The forensic doctors’ report identified the acute effects of ketamine, a powerful anesthetic, as the main cause.

Now, certain passages from Perry’s memoir have come to light again, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thingin which he narrates that The first time he was given ketamine was in a rehabilitation clinic in Switzerland, during the pandemic.

Matthew, who died on October 28, aged 54, wrote that “ketamine was a very popular street drug in the 1980s. There is currently a synthetic form and it is used for two reasons: to relieve pain and to help with depression.” But he also described the effects he felt in his body minutes after the drug was administered – he was blindfolded and listening to music – describing them as “a giant exhalation.”

The actor continued with his story: “Oh, I thought: This is what happens when you die. However, I kept signing up for this shit because it was something different, and anything different is good. Taking K is like getting hit in the head with a giant, happy shovel. But the hangover was hard and surpassed the shovel.”

The autopsy report carried out on the body of Matthew Perry (who was found in the pool of his Los Angeles home) highlights other circumstances that contributed to his death, such as the effects of buprenorphine – an opioid -, drowning and coronary artery disease. “Drowning contributes due to the probability of immersion in the pool when losing consciousness.”; “Coronary artery disease contributes due to exacerbation of ketamine-induced myocardial effects on the heart.” A week before dying, the actor had undergone therapy in which he was administered ketamine, but The coroner highlighted that the amount of this medication consumed “could not be from that infusion therapy, since the half-life of ketamine is 3 to 4 hours, or less.”
