Sebastián Yatra will sponsor the Prodigio Scholarship of the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation. The scholarship, worth $200,000, will allow the winner to pursue a four-year bachelor’s degree at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
For the Colombian singer to sponsor this scholarship It is something very special for him because – he assured – one of his dreams was to study music at Berklee.. “Although my career had a different trajectory, I would have loved to have had that type of preparation and knowledge,” Yatra said in a statement from the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation.
The “Tacones rojo” interpreter will be attentive to scholarship applications and hopes that the winner can make the most of this opportunity.
“I hope that the person who receives this opportunity takes full advantage of the scholarship and enjoys it to the fullest. “I will be on the lookout for applicants who convey a lot of soul and sincerity in their art,” he added.
In 2019, Yatra joined the foundation for the Latin Grammy En Las Escuelas campaignan initiative with which music students from middle and high schools in Miami learned about “the environment of talented Latin artists and professional musicians,” the statement indicates.
Yatra’s appointment comes after the singer participated as one of the hosts of the 24th edition of the Latin Grammyswhich was held in Seville, Spain.
Other artists who have sponsored the Prodigio Scholarship
The Latin Grammy Foundation Prodigy Scholarship was created in 2014 and, before Yatra, artists such as Carlos Vives, Juanes, Sofía Carson, Juan Luis Guerra, Miguel Bosé, Emilio and Gloria Estefan, and Julio Iglesias, Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias have been the sponsors.
In addition to the Colombian singer, Gibson Gives, the philanthropic division of the guitar brand, will sponsor three Tuition Assistance Scholarships of up to $10,000 each for students learning guitar as their primary instrument.
The guitar brand will cover the total tuition for one year and, in addition, will include a Gibson guitar.
In the statement, the foundation added that will accept applications for the 44 scholarships which will be available next year to music students between the ages of 17 and 25.
Applications for all scholarships will be accepted from December 14, 2023 to April 10, 2024.
To date, the Latin Grammy Foundation has awarded 383 scholarships and invested $7.6 million in the last nine years.
