He Detroit Police Department reported Sunday that a second person of interest in the murder of Detroit synagogue president Samantha Woll was arrested.
The fatal stabbing of the Detroit synagogue leader, whose death occurred after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, sparked speculation that the murder could have been the result of anti-Semitism. However, Police Chief James White has said the attack does not appear to be the result of anti-Semitism.
“The DPD can confirm that a person of interest has been detained as part of the investigation into the murder of Samantha Woll,” the police said. detroit police in a statement cited by CBS News.
“In an effort to ensure the integrity of this ongoing investigation, no further details will be released at this time. Additional information will be published in the near future,” they added.
The arrest is the second announced by the city’s police department. since the Oct. 21 murder of Samantha Woll, 40, who was found dead outside her home near the city center hours after returning from a wedding. Investigators believe the attack occurred inside the woman’s home.
A suspect initially detained was released last month without charges being filed.
The detroit police He did not say Sunday night whether the suspect currently detained is the same person arrested earlier in the case.
No other details have been revealed.
“We have several people we’re interested in,” White said in the days after Woll’s murder. “We are close to classifying one of the people as a suspect, but we are working toward that end.”
Woll was president of the Isaac Agree Center Synagogue. Additionally, he had worked for U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin and on state Attorney General Dana Nessel’s political campaign.
