Massacres in Mexico: These are the worst violent events recorded in 2023

Massacres of the Michoacana Family

According to the Common Cause Organization, From January to October 2023, 355 massacres were recorded in Mexico. In the State of Mexico 14 occurred, in Guerrero 38 and in Michoacán 17.

Last October, the municipality of Coyuca de Benítez, in Guerrero, experienced a tragedy when 13 police officers were executedincluding the local Security Secretary and the operational director, after an ambush while they were on a tour, those responsible were members of La Familia Michoacana, according to the newspaper El Financiero.

Other massacres

Weeks before, on April 16, a massacre occurred in a resort in Cortazar, Guanajuato, where seven people were murdered, six were members of a family. They were three women, three men and a seven-year-old child, El Financiero reported.

On January 28 other seven people were murdered inside a bar in Jerez, Zacatecas. Local media reported that a group of armed men arrived at the site and opened fire on those present.

Bars were the places where the most massacres occurred this year, and the most affected states were Guanajuato, Veracruz and Zacatecas. Furthermore, the victims for each event were between five and 12, which shows the cruelty with which organized crime acts in Mexico.
