A savage confrontation between civilians and alleged members of the cartel known as the Familia Michoacana left 11 people dead in the State of Mexico, according to preliminary data from the entity’s Security Secretariat (SS), the EFE agency reported on Friday. The number of fatalities rose to 14 at night according to the newspaper El Universal.
According to official preliminary information from the SS of the State of Mexico released by EFE, eight deceased people were allegedly linked to criminal activities and three more were residents of the Mexican town of Texcaltitlán. It is believed that the three additional victims were also people associated with the Familia Michoacana.

According to unofficial reports and social networks, the event happened after the civilians decided to confront alleged extortionists, who periodically collected a fee from Mexican residents for their safety and for the use of the land in commercial activities, EFE added in its report.
