December is here and we have officially entered the Christmas movie season. This weekend we have up to four titles related more or less to the holiday season.

“Silent Night”, John Woo’s violent return to Hollywood

It is not a film for everyone, but the return of the legendary Hong Kong director John Woo (“Face/Off”, “Mission Impossible 2”) to Hollywood after 10 years is the most interesting theatrical release of the week.

From the same producer of “John Wick,” “Silent Night” would be the typical action film in which the protagonist plans and executes merciless revenge. But there is a detail that makes it different: when Godlock (Joel Kinnaman) sees his little son die in his garden on Christmas Eve, victim of the crossfire of two gangs chasing each other in cars in front of his house, the father will try to catch up with the criminals only to end up being wounded in the throat, causing him to lose the voice.

From then on he will have only one goal: to recover and prepare to do justice on his own… in silence.

The actor himself told us that although he did not have to learn any dialogue, he studied the script “more than ever” due to the difficulty of giving life to a character who is on screen practically the entire film but does not speak at any time.

With December come Christmas movies. Like this comedy starring George Lopez and Mariana Treviño, a couple of Mexican origin in Los Angeles who prepares for a traditional Christmas celebration full of happiness that soon turns into chaos when their daughter (Emily Tosta) appears with her new boyfriend: a gringo who no one has invited (Jack Kilmer) and who arrives with the intention of asking for the daughter’s hand. Premiering today in theaters, on demand and digital.

Chris (Eddie Murphy) is determined to win his neighborhood’s Christmas decoration contest. To do this, he makes a deal with a mischievous elf (Jillian Bell) without knowing that the contract includes a condition: for twelve days the dolls, animals and other pieces of decoration will come to life, bringing chaos to the entire city. Chris, his wife and his three children will have to break the spell to save Christmas. It is Eddie Murphy’s first Christmas comedy. Premiering today on Amazon Prime Video.

“Family Switch”, the weekend premiere on Netflix

An original comedy that has just been released by Netflix. Jess (Jennifer Garner) and Bill Walker (Ed Helms) struggle to keep their family together as the kids grow older, more independent, and more distant.

Suddenly, an encounter with an astrologer (Rita Moreno) causes each of them to wake up one morning in the body of another family member. How will each one live looking like his father, his mother or his son? Will they help each other at work, at school, at a soccer tryout?
