Antony Starr feared being replaced by Henry Cavill in ‘The Boys’

The character of Homelander in the hit series “The Boys” has left an indelible mark on pop culture, establishing itself as an extreme parody of Superman. Played by Antony Starr, known for his roles in “Cobweb” and “Banshee,” the actor initially underestimated his suitability for the role.

When they offered him the script, Starr doubted whether casting was even worth considering. He thought the role would go to someone muscular and charismatic, a la Henry Cavill.. Starr, in an interview with Metro UK, admitted that he didn’t see himself as the ideal prototype for a superhero. However, fate had other plans.

Ignoring the script for a week and a half, motivated by the insistence of his representatives, Starr finally dove into the online casting process. She recorded an audition out of spite, with no real hope of landing the role. However, the surprise came when the production, led by Eric Kripke, was impressed with the audition, changing Starr’s perspective.

When reviewing the script, Starr realized its quality and decided to commit to the project. The result was the shocking incarnation of Homelander, who has transcended the television screen to be included in projects such as ‘Gen V’, ‘Diabolical’ and even in the world of video games, where he can be selected as a fighter in ‘Mortal Kombat 1’ .
