Cynthia Nixon, known for her role in “Sex and The City,” has joined a hunger strike with the aim of putting pressure on the president of the United States, Joe Biden, to intervene and achieve a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
The actress and activist expressed her exhaustion at considering civilian casualties as a routine part of war. Nixon urged Biden to intervene and end the conflict that persists in the region.
“In seven weeks, Israel has claimed more civilian lives in a small strip of land than in 20 years of war across Afghanistan.”. I am tired of explanations that trivialize civilian casualties as a routine toll of war. There is nothing routine about those figures. There is nothing routine about these deaths,” declared the protagonist of the successful 90s series.
With two of his three children of Jewish descent, one of them motivated Nixon to use his voice to demand a ceasefire. The demonstration, in which the actress participates, takes place in front of the White House on November 28, 2023, marked by a hunger strike that will continue until its objective is reached.
It is important to note that the conflict between Israel and Hamas experienced a truce in the Gaza Strip since last Friday, when the exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners began. Hamas took approximately 240 hostages during a raid in southern Israel on October 7triggering retaliation by Israel with bombings in Gaza and a ground offensive in the north of the enclave.
HBO Max premiered second season of ‘And Just Like That’
HBO Max in July released the second season episodes of ‘And Just Like That’, offering a continuation of the lives of Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte, along with her new New York friends who are now facing fifty. In response to criticism about the first installment, the second season normally addresses the previously forced situations, expanding the dose of sex, humor and the emblematic atmosphere of New York. Besides, each of the 11 episodes, now extended to 45 minutes, promises a more complete experience.
Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes, shared in an interview the change of pace in the new season, highlighting the transformation that her character undergoes. While in the first season the plot focused on Carrie’s mourning for the death of Mr. Big, this second installment adopts a more enjoyable tone.
Although Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, continues to grieve, Nixon reveals that life is short so as not to try new things. The plot unfolds with Carrie exploring uncomplicated sex with her producer, while Miranda, in Los Angeles, embarks on various experiences to adapt to her new life and relationship.
The interview reveals surprising and funny scenes, such as Miranda’s attempt to wear a harness with a fake penis and her immersion in a sensory isolation tank. Nixon shares that the experience of floating in a tank was not as relaxing as expected.
Miranda, seemingly lost and searching for her place in the new stage of her life, makes significant decisions, such as leaving her job and her husband to pursue a relationship with a non-binary person in Los Angeles. Nixon suggests that Miranda is shedding the predictable things in her life, seeking to open doors and explore new paths.
Cynthia Nixon not only stands out as an actress but also as a director, assuming the responsibility of directing episodes 5 and 6 of this season. In her role as director, she enjoys working with the cast and ensuring the story is told coherently.
