JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said Wednesday that Democrats should also help former South Carolina governor Nikki Haleyin his race for the Republican presidential nomination in the 2024 elections, as a way to affirm his opposition to former President Trump.
“If you are a very liberal Democrat, I urge you to help Nikki Haley too. Give them an option on the Republican side that might be better than Trump,” said Dimon, who runs the country’s largest commercial bank, on stage at The New York Times’ 2023 DealBook Summit.
The words of Dimon, a voice widely heard on Wall Street, They were addressed to an audience of executives from large companies present in the room, at that event in which billionaires such as Elon Musk, Bob Iger and David Zaslav later spoke.
Nikki Haley, who was the US ambassador to the UN during the Trump era and previously governor of South Carolina for six years, is gaining support to the detriment of other Republican candidates, such as the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, who has a percentage of voting intentions that are already in free fall.
Just yesterday, the group Americans for Prosperity, the political arm of the billionaire Koch brothers, also spoke out in favor of Haley and in a tweet said that she represents “the positive vision (of the US) that we desperately need.”
However, despite the support of these “heavyweights” on Wall Street, Nikki Haley is still far behind Donald Trump in the preferences of potential Republican voters, according to all the polls to date, which give Trump figures greater than 40% support.
With less than a year left until the presidential elections are held, The race for the Republican nomination is still open, while on the Democratic side no one overshadows the current president Joe Biden, who is seeking re-election.
