Terence Crawford is stripped of the IBF welterweight belt and is no longer the undisputed champion

Terence Crawford He is no longer the undisputed boxing champion, since the International Federation (FIB) decided to strip him of his belt. as a welterweight monarch; now IBF interim champion Jaron Ennis keeps Crawford’s beltwho cannot complete his mandatory fight against the aforementioned boxer, due to a revenge clause against Errol Spencer Jr. whom he recently stripped of his belt.

Terence Crawford became the undisputed champion of the welterweight division when he defeated Spence in the ninth round, and thus managed to win the WBC, WBA and IBF titles at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. In this fight, Terence arrived as WBO champion, a title that he won in June 2018 and successfully defended for the seventh time.

However, this fight had a contractual clause that would allow Spence a rematch, something for which he already exercised his right, this after the IBF ordered Crawford to face Ennis, and due to the inability to carry out the fight, Crawford finished without one of his coveted sashes.

“No contract for a Championship competition shall contain any clause or provision of any kind.which guarantees or in any way assures or promises to any of the contenders a competition for the return Championship when said clause or provision interferes with the mandatory defense of a title,” the IBF said in a statement.

“Based on the above, the IBF has withdrawn recognition of Terence Crawford as IBF Welterweight World Champion.“, reiterated the governing body of boxing.

Notably Jaron Ennis claimed Terence Crawford’s belt, after a victory in which he beat Karen Chukhadzhian in 12 rounds and by unanimous decision on January 7th. The boxer born in Philadelphia 26 years ago is one of the top young talents in boxing although he has not been able to face a level rival, something he can change now that he has a belt.

For its part, a date for the rematch between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence has not been confirmed, although according to reports from ESPN The rematch would be scheduled for February 2024.
