Miguel Layún, Mexican World Cup player in Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018, stated this Friday that regardless of whether he will say goodbye to football at the end of this yearworks every day to find his best version.

“My objective is very clear and I don’t have time to think about other things. I only think about being in my best version to participate and help my team, That’s why I don’t think about goodbye; I don’t have it so present. I will realize about retirement later and not during the moment,” said the Águilas del América player of Mexican soccer.

A few weeks ago Layún, who is 35 years old, announced that he will leave professional football after a 26-year career in which he played with Atalanta of the Italian Serie A; Watford, with which he achieved promotion to the English Premier League; in Porto in Portugal; and in Sevilla and Villarreal in Spain.

The champion with the Mexican team in the 2015 Concacaf Gold Cup mentioned that he is not upset by the decision he made because he is satisfied with what he achieved in his time in football.

“I live these last moments just like every one I have had the opportunity to live every time I have stood on a soccer field. It is a blessing to have fulfilled my dreams, especially because I found the ability to enjoy,” he stressed.

The one born in Córdoba, Veracruz on June 25, 1988, trusted that his retirement will be complete with obtaining one more title with Américawith which he already won two trophies in 2013 and 2014.

“Thanks to the arrival of Mr. Jardine, the team puts aside all external factors, we have found maturity. We do not allow ourselves to get out of focus. I hope that this is reflected in the results because this brings us closer to achieving the objective, which is the league title,” he said regarding the direction of Brazilian André Jardine.

América is in first place one day before the end of the Apertura 2023. It has 39 points with which he secured the top and his participation in the final phase in which he will seek his 14th league title.

On the seventeenth day of the contest, the Águilas will close their participation in the regular tournament with their visit to the champions Tigres UANL.
