Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks point guard, assured that he would tie Luka Doncic’s points record with 41 points in an NBA game in Mexico it is only valid because his team defeated the Orlando Magic this Thursday 120-119.

“It feels really good to be honest, but I feel a lot better because we won. I would be mad if we had lost and tying the record wouldn’t have been important to me. Winning and breaking the record makes the night much more special,” he explained at the press conference after the 32nd NBA game in Mexico.

With 41 points, Young led the Hawks’ victory over the Magic and tied the same amount that Doncic scored in 2019 when leading the Dallas Mavericks to a victory over the Detroit Pistons.

“I loved the energy of the arena tonight. Since we arrived in Mexico, the energy of the people was felt. Mexico is an incredible place to play, “I wouldn’t mind coming here if they get an expansion team in the NBA in the future,” added the two-time All-Star Game player.

The member of the best rookie team of the 2018-2019 season stated that the support of Mexican fans helped him overcome the altitude of Mexico City, above 2,000 meters above sea level.

“In the third quarter the altitude affected me, I had to leave for a moment, “But the atmosphere of the arena encouraged me and made me not suffer from fatigue,” he said.

Atlanta’s offense was led again by the star of the night, Young, who had a 21-point performance, again he has two converted long-distance shots.

Orlando once again focused on attacking the paint in the third quarter to finish a period with an advantage for the first time, going 98-93 up in the final 12 minutes.

The Magic were led by six points off the bench from Cole Anthony and a defense that limited Young to just two points.with which Atlanta lost its strength to stay ahead on the scoreboard.

In the last quarter, it was now Atlanta that overcame a deficit in the last two minutes of the game, in which Young broke the record of Doncic, for whom he was traded from the Mavs to the Hawks in the 2018 Draft.
