SNAP coupons: the requirements that university students must meet to qualify for the payment

Every month millions of low-income households benefit from payments sent by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) so they can finance basic foods.

But, the program is not only aimed at a certain group of the population, beneficiaries also include university students which must meet some requirements to receive the benefit monthly.

Those who attend an institution more than half-time are eligible for payment, but you must also take into account some requirements such as:

• Be under 18 years old or be 50 years old or older.
• Have any physical or mental disability.
• Participate in a state- or federally funded work-study program.
• Participate in an on-the-job training program.
• Work at least 20 hours per week in paid employment.
• Be a single mother or father enrolled full-time in college and caring for a child under 12 years of age without the necessary child care to allow him or her to attend school and work 20 hours a week or participate in a work study.
• Receive assistance from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

But, You are not eligible if you unfortunately receive the majority of your meals on some mandatory or optional university meal plan. Now, if these university students have been relocated to a higher education institution through a federal entity, they may qualify for SNAP benefits.
