The Eagles of America continue to fly high in the current 2023 Apertura Tournament of the MX League and on Saturday by beating Xolos de Tijuana and They are getting close to breaking a record of the competition.

With goals from Alejandro Zendejas (73), Jonathan ‘Cabecita’ Rodríguez (78) and Álvaro Fidalgo (85), Club América thrashed in front of their fans at the Azteca Stadium against Xolos who were left with 10 players after the expulsion of Kevin Balanta at minute 61.

With this victory, the eighth in a row and the twelfth (12) in the Apertura 2023, the azulcremas will add 39 points at the top of the standings with the last and decisive matchday against the Tigres de la UANL remaining.

Already classified to the Liguilla and without seeing its first position in the classification in danger, América only has on the horizon to break a record for short Liga MX tournaments, the maximum points in the same tournament.

What is the Liga MX points record that Club América could break?

In a short Liga MX tournament, whether Apertura or Clausura, The maximum number of points that a club has managed to add is 41registry that they implemented in previous years Club León and Cruz Azul.

In the case of ‘La Fiera’, they set the record of 41 points in the 2019 Clausura Tournament under the leadership of Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Ambriz, achieving 13 wins, two draws and the same number of losses.

In Clausura (Guardianes) 2021, Cruz Azul’s ‘Celestial Machine’ reached the same figure in the classification with the Peruvian Juan Reynoso on the bench.

Unlike in the case of Club León, Cruz Azul did manage to reach the end of the Liguilla and celebrate the Liga MX championship.

Now Brazilian André Jardine’s troops could surpass that figure next Saturday, November 11. A victory against the visiting Tigers, the Águilas del America would reach 42 units and set a new record.

If they tied, they would be one point away from the mark and if they lost, they would be 39 points away. Neither of the two scenarios is a failure considering the maximum performance of the azulcremas in this semester.
