Lio Messi talks about his retirement: “I know these are my last years”

Lionel Messi recently won his eighth Ballon d’Or at age 36 after winning the World Cup and moving to MLS.. After more than 20 years in the elite, Messi recognizes that he is close to retiring.

In his “Messi Meets America” documentary, which can be seen on Apple TV, the Argentine acknowledges that it will be very difficult when he has to leave the field of play and that he tries to enjoy every moment he has left.

“I am lucky to do something that I am passionate about, that I love and that I try to enjoy on the court. I know these are my last years and when I don’t have this I’m going to miss it a lot because no matter how much I find something to do, nothing is going to be similar to what I did all my life,” he said.

La Pulga is experiencing his first stage outside of Europe after arriving at Inter Miami where he won the franchise’s first title with the Leagues Cup. Now for the Argentine all he has to do is enjoy his last years as a footballer.

“I always enjoyed it in the best way, playing soccer is what I liked the most, since before that photo. “I’m enjoying it, trying to live every moment as the last because whether it’s a little or a lot, I know these are the last few years,” he said.

Messi continues to be of vital importance in the Argentina team where they are first for the 2026 World Cup qualification, which has the unknown of whether he will be able to compete for the top scorer in the history of the albiceleste.

“I don’t think if I’m the best in history or not. I am grateful for the career I had, for the moments I had to live in recent years with the Copa América and especially the World Cup because it closed many things after having fought it for a long time. “Everything is very special,” she added.
