Ecuadorian surfer Israel Barona died in a hotel in El Salvador this Tuesday, October 31. The athlete died in the department of La Libertad, which is considered one of the most touristic beaches in the aforementioned country where Barona was preparing for a competition, and also aspired to obtain an Olympic quota for his country.
As reported Ecuavisa, the surfer would have died of a heart attack. The local police had detailed that Barona suffered seizures while I was in a hotel in The ZonteLa Libertad and that despite being transferred to a healthcare center, he was already deceased, they also ruled out that there was homicide in the unfortunate event.

Israel Barona’s career in a family of surfers
Barona had been surfing since he was 10 years old. Thanks to his good performance, he had the opportunity to represent Ecuador in the World Surfing Games and the Bolivarian Games.and as mentioned previously, the Ecuadorian was seeking to obtain an Olympic quota to represent his country in Paris 2024.

The body of the Ecuadorian will arrive in his country on Sunday, according to journalist Diego Arcos through his account on X (formerly Twitter).

The Ecuadorian Olympic Committee expressed its regret in a statement issued through its social networks: “Olympism extends its heartfelt condolences to the Barona Matute family, following the death of the great athlete Israel Barona Matute“wrote the highest Olympic body of the South American country in his account on X.
