During a recent forum of the Círculo de Montevideo Foundation titled “The Rebirth of Ethics”, the Mexican businessman and engineer listed as one of the fourteenth richest men in the world, Carlos Slim proposed reforming the working day to only 3 days a week.
This influential figure has also expressed his perspective on the retirement age, pointing out the need to increase the retirement year to age 75 instead of 60 or 65 as currently established.
Slim, who according to Bloomberg has a fortune of approximately 82.9 billion dollars, He highlighted that these adjustments in the working day would more easily address the challenges of the labor market by increasing, for example, the availability of employment.
The businessman said that “what I know, I have said it several times, is that you must work three days, twelve hours a day, three days to accommodate three other people who work the other three days and retire at age seventy-five, not at sixty-five or sixty,” Slim said.
Given the growing concern about unemployment in most countries, this proposal for Slim offers a logical solution as extending the retirement age would simultaneously develop the capacity of the social security system to support retirees in the future.

In the forum Slim also delved into topics such as the incorporation of artificial intelligence and the role this plays in the labor market, both for the generation of employment and the increase in the productivity of the companies that use it.
