The Government of Mexico raised 39 the death toll after the passage of Hurricane Otis to the coasts of Guerrero, of which 29 are men and 10 women, in addition to another 10 missing.
In a message recorded from the National Palace, the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, was informed by telephone about the deceased by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez.
“Unfortunately, the State Prosecutor’s Office gives a total of victims until the moment of 39 deceased, 29 of them men and 10 women. The probable cause is asphyxiation due to submersion, although investigations are still continuing. Also 10 reports, 10 people who are looking for their relatives. The investigations continue, Mr. President, to find the whereabouts of these people,” the official said.
Rosa Icela Rodríguez told the Mexican president that the deceased have not yet been identified.
“I must inform you that of the 39 victims, who have already lost their lives, They do not have their names yet, they have not yet been identified”, said.
From his office in the National Palace, the Mexican president said that he will be reporting directly and punctually on the actions carried out in Acapulco in the face of the disinformation campaign by his opponents who use the tragedy, he said, as “politicking.” .
“I am communicating with all of you, all Mexicans, especially with the people of Guerrero to inform you of the situation in Acapulco, it is important that you know what happened and what we are doing to face this emergency because There is a lot of misinformation, a lot of politicking, they want to use this misfortune for electoral purposes. Our opponents, who are very vile, the conservatives buzz, they don’t care about people’s pain. We are acting like never before. “In a very short time we are facing the problems that this hurricane has left,” he commented.
Among the damages left by the hurricane in Acapulco are more than 220 thousand affected homes; damage of around 80% in hotels; more than 513 thousand users affected by power outages; more than 10 thousand fallen light poles; 37 light transmission lines affected, among other effects.
