Hurricane Otis, which impacted the state of Guerrero as a category 5, left serious damage to infrastructure and flooding, as confirmed by the president of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

“Yes, the hurricane hit Guerrero very hardon the large coast in Acapulco, in Tecpan, in that entire stretch from Tecpan to Acapulco, Coyuca de Benítez, Juárez and other municipalities, Atoyac, those that are in that strip and the hurricane is still affecting, communications have been completely lost”, he noted in his morning conference.

In videos broadcast on social networks, the strong gusts of wind and water of the meteorological phenomenon can be seen. They devastated everything in their path in several hotels in Acapulco.

It was in the early hours of this Wednesday that Otis took the inhabitants of Acapulco by surprise, who were left incommunicado due to the destruction of light and telecommunications sources.

In other videos you can see how people in hotels sought refuge when they were stranded by winds that exceeded 260 kilometers per hour.

In a statement from the Federal Electricity Commission, CFE, it was reported that more than half a million Mexicans were left without electricity due to the passage of Hurricane Otis.

“The affected users represent 36.7% of the 1.37 million total users in the state of Guerrero,” the statement said.

For her part, the governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, asked residents to remain calm and pay attention to official information.

“During the day, I will be in the territory, attentive to the needs of our people. I ask you to stay calm, avoid spreading rumors and continue to pay attention to official information. I will keep you informed at all times. (3/3)

One of the main rivers of Guerrero known as the Papagayooverflowed due to the large amount of water that fell in the area, leaving Acapulco incommunicado due to damage to roads.

According to historical records, Otis, which has already been downgraded to a tropical storm, was the first hurricane to impact the Mexican Pacific as a category 5.

Other meteorological phenomena that are in the memory of the inhabitants of the state of Guerrero are hurricanes Madeline (1976); Paulina (1997) and Ingrid and Manuel (2013).
