Golden Mexican at the Pan American Games: Paola Longoria adds a new gold medal in her outstanding career

The Mexican Paola Longoria won her tenth racquetball gold medal this Tuesday in Santiago 2023 in the Pan American Games and the fourth consecutive in this sporting event by beating her compatriot Montserrat Mejía, number one in the world ranking, in the women’s singles final.

Longoria defeated Mejía in straight sets, 11-9, 11-8 and 11-3in the competition held in the Santiago Racquet Center.

It is the fourth title in a row for Longoria, 34, in this Pan-American event. (Guadalajara 2011, Toronto 2015 and Lima 2019).

“Grateful. The truth of achieving this goal of endorsing my titles from Guadalajara, Toronto and Lima, and here in Santiago I knew that (Montserrat) was a heavy Mexican and with whom I have faced many times“Longoria said after the game.

Mejía finished as number 1 on the Women’s Professional Racquetball Tour for the 2022-2023 season. A position that Longoria held for many years on the circuit from 2015 to 2022.

Longoria also said he did not know if he would continue competing in the next Pan American Games, which will take place in 2027 in Barranquilla, Colombia.

“Don’t know. Maybe I’ll come back in four years, but I don’t know.”held.

“Precisely for me it was important to win that medal in case they become my last (Games), to leave as a champion and it is the best taste for an athlete. I have always prepared enough for this. Here the story continues, with the national team it is always a pleasure to show off the colors of Mexico,” he added.

The gold medal matches in men’s, women’s doubles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles will also take place today.
