Rite Aid closes 31 stores in California in its restructuring plan after filing for bankruptcy

Rite Aid to lower curtains at 31 California stores within its restructuring plan presented this Monday, October 16, before the United States Bankruptcy Court.

The company reported that would close at least 154 stores in the countrywhen it had previously been said that the suspension of activities could reach around 500 stores.

The retail pharmacy chain declared bankruptcy amid a decline in sales and facing several opioid-related lawsuits.

Rite Aid seeks to reduce its debt while attempting to resolve claims in an equitable manneraccording to representatives of the chain.

10 stores will close in Los Angeles Countywhile in Orange County service will be suspended in six locations, two in Ventura County and two more in the Inland Empire.

Four stores will stop operating in San Diego Countywhile in northern counties of the Golden State 7 pharmacies will close.

This Tuesday, Rite Aid said in an email that many of the stores on the list have already closed and received extensive notice of the closure, while other of their locations that are still offering service will close their doors in the coming weeks.

It is currently unknown when the Rite Aid pharmacies contemplated for closure in California will stop offering service, but patients’ prescriptions are expected to be transferred to other pharmacies.

Rite Aid is a 60-year-old company and managed to operate nearly 2,100 retail pharmacies in the United States, mainly in coastal states.

The company reported that its revenue fell to $5.7 billion in the fiscal quarter ending June 3 compared to $6 billion in 2022, for an estimated net loss of $306.7 million dollars.
