This is revealed by a new classification of data on Hispanics or Latinos launched by the Latino Data Hub of the UCLA Latino Public Policy Institute.

The Latino Data Hub seeks to change the way Latino communities are understood and supported in the United States.

“New ‘UCLA LPPI Latino Data Hub’ is a testament to the power that they have the data to drive positive changes,” said Rodrigo Dominguez-Villegas, research director at UCLA LPPI. “Latinos are at the center of American history, and it’s about time we had a comprehensive resource that reflects the richness of our diversity and the unique challenges we face.”

He added that “adequate information” about the Latino population will help rights advocates, legislators and community leaders improve their strategies.

“This powerful new data platform is a significant step toward equity and progress, and I am excited to think about the impact it will have,” he said.

Accurate information about Latinos

UCLA LPPI highlights the depth of information on Latino populations, as it divides the data into several categories.

“[Se organizan] by Latino ancestry group, race, citizenship status, and many other characteristics,” he highlights. “For the first time, all interested entities can access nuanced data and different perspectives on the well-being of these diverse groups, ensuring that policies and initiatives are dedicated to solving the particular challenges facing Latinos.”

For example, It is noted that Latinos have an average age of 29 years“in contrast to the national average age of 38 years,” the report says.

“However, there are subgroups, such as Cubans, whose average age is 40 years, which reveals important generational nuances,” the report adds.

The tool is free, available in English and Spanish, developed with the support of Casey Family Programs and the WK Kellogg Foundation.

“The platform includes data covering ten topic areas for Latinos, including child well-being, demographics, democracy and voting, education and language, employment, income and poverty, health insurance, digital technology, transportation, and housing,” it states. indicates.
