In 2020 the San Diego CPB intercepted more vessels with illegal immigrants than ever
The maritime interceptions of immigrants off the coast of San Diego , California, broke records in the fiscal year 2020 more than 300 operational, and in this 2021 arrests are on the rise, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported Tuesday.
The office San Diego’s CBP documented a record of 309 maritime smuggling events during the fiscal year 1200. During this fiscal year, which covers from October 2020 to the date, in this sector have been registered 300 smuggling events maritime, the agency highlighted in a statement.
At Last operation, the federal authorities intercepted a boat near midnight on Saturday with 20 immigrants undocumented on board.
The ship was detained approximately a quarter of a mile west of the coast of Point Loma . Inside was a total of 17 men and three women, and all identified as Mexican, the agency indicated.
Officers determined that the 17 immigrants were illegally present in the United States . All the people were taken to a local Border Patrol station for processing and removal from the country.
“As A constant reminder to the public, if you see anything out of the ordinary near shore, feel free to call authorities, ”CBP spokesman Aaron M. Heitke said in the statement.
“ These ships are dangerously overloaded and unsafe in the ocean . Traffickers exploit migrants and put lives in grave danger for their own benefit, ”he added.
He last 17 December a boat with 23 Mexican immigrants managed to arrive to the shores of Long Beach, a city that belongs to the county of Los Angeles.
The undocumented – 21 men and two women, including two minors, all of Mexican origin, were detained by federal authorities. This operation is not included in the San Diego figures.
