Mitch McConnell, the longest serving Republican in the Senate, recognized the work done by Kevin McCarthy during the months in which he served as speaker of the House of Representatives, a position from which he was recently removed.

Through a statement, The 81-year-old politician who constantly disagreed with the California Republican thanked him for the efforts made during his administration.

“President McCarthy has my sincerest gratitude for his service to our nation in what is often a thankless role.

The president’s tenure was marked by historic struggles, but as he reminded his colleagues when he took office, ‘our nation is worth fighting for.'”, wrote.

Among McCarthy’s accomplishments praised by the Kentucky senator stands out the debt limit agreement he reached in May with Joe Biden to cut discretionary spending not related to national defense.

“The Speaker’s appetite for worthy causes galvanized a narrow majority to seize historic opportunities for the American people and conservative principles. His willingness to face the biggest challenges head-on helped preserve the full faith and credit of the United States and showed his colleagues how to handle each outcome with grace.“, he indicated.

However, Some members of his own party did not think the same about McCarthy, So they voted to end his tenure after nine months in the House of Representatives, creating the third shortest term in that position in nearly 150 years.

Either way, McConnell recognized his political rival’s patriotism by recently avoiding a government shutdown through a conciliation of bipartisan interests.

2I am especially grateful to the Speaker for our close collaboration. As Congressional Republicans continue the essential work begun during his term, President McCarthy’s unapologetic patriotism and unwavering optimism will continue to be a valuable guide,” he emphasized.

For his part, the California senator ruled out any possibility of running again for the position from which he was removed.
