A strong 7.0 earthquake in Japan caused only injuries, no major damage

A strong earthquake shook northern Japan on Saturday, shook buildings even in Tokyo and triggered a tsunami warning for part of the north coast.

No major damage reported, but Authorities reported that several people suffered minor injuries.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) calculated the strength of the earthquake at a magnitude of 7.0 and a depth of 54 kilometres (33.5 miles). The shaking started just before 6: 10 pm on Saturday .

The earthquake had its epicenter off the coast of Miyagi prefecture, in the rugged northeast of the country, which was severely damaged during the massive 2011 earthquake and tsunami that left more than 18, 000 dead.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a warning for a tsunami of up to 1 meter high for Miyagi prefecture immediately after the earthquake, but raised it about 90 minutes after.

Officials said there are no immediate reports of damage.

The Fire and Disaster Management Agency said that seven people were injured in Miyagi prefecture, including two women older, one who received a blow to the head with a rta and the other who was hit on the shoulder by furniture. In neighboring Iwate Prefecture, a woman of about 50 fell and cut herself mouth.

The strong earthquake caused a temporary blackout in some areas and suspended bullet train services in the area, according to East Japan Railway Co.

East Japan Railway Company says services on the Tohoku Shinkansen bullet train line, that were partially suspended following Saturday’s earthquake, are expected to resume at 10 pm: Japanese Media

The Nuclear Regulatory Authority said that no anomalies have been detected at nuclear power plants in the region, including the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, which suffered collapses in the earthquake and tsunami of 2011.
