Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insisted on implicating the Government of India in the assassination in Canada of the Sikh leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
“There is reliable evidence to believe that agents of the Government of India were involved in the murder of a Canadian on Canadian soil… We request the Government of India to collaborate with us to get to the bottom of this matter“Trudeau said at a press conference in New York, after participating in the United Nations General Assembly.
The Canadian Prime Minister’s statements come shortly after the Indian Government of Narendra Modi announced this Thursday, September 21, about the suspension of visa issuance for Canadians and ask Ottawa to reduce its diplomatic mission in India.
“Unacceptable that a country is involved in the murder of a citizen on our territory… India is a country of growing importance. We are not interested in provoking or causing problems, but we will be adamant about the importance of the lawthe importance of protecting Canadians and defending our values,” Trudeau commented from New York.
The diplomatic conflict between Canada and India broke out last Monday, September 18, when Justin Trudeau, in a solemn statement in the Canadian Parliament, revealed that Canadian intelligence services hold India responsible for the June murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Singh Nijjar, a Sikh minority leader who advocated the creation of an independent state for the Sikhs in northern India and who acquired Canadian nationality in 2007was shot in June in the town of Surrey, in western Canada.
