The United States government warned the North Korean government to avoid arms transactions with Russiasince it could violate United Nations Security Council resolutions.

The position of President Joe Biden’s government occurs after confirming the meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un with Russian Vladimir Putin.

“I will remind both countries that any arms transfer from North Korea to Russia would violate multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions“said Matthew Miller, a State Department spokesman. “Of course, we have aggressively enforced our sanctions against entities funding Russia’s war effort, and we will continue to enforce them and will not hesitate to impose new sanctions if appropriate.”

He added that the possible arms transaction occurs when Russia faces difficulties in military advance in Ukraine.

“A year and a half ago President Putin launched this war against Ukraine with its large-scale aggression with the dream of restoring the glory of the Russian empire. That hope, that expectation of theirs, has failed,” Miller said. “It will continue to fail. And I think the best proof of this is that now, a year and a half later, not only has he not achieved his objectives on the battlefield, but we see him traveling around his own country, hat in hand, to beg Kim Jong-un for military assistance.”

Miller dwelled on Putin’s failed efforts in Ukraine, a country that the US and its NATO allies have supported with short-range weapons to defend against the Russian invasion.

“I think it obviously means that [Putin] is having trouble sustaining the military effort and that is why he is seeking help from North Korea,” Miller said. “And in terms of what our reaction will be, we are going to follow the outcome of this meeting very closely.”

Jong-un would have arrived in Russia on Tuesday morning, according to information from Korean and Russian agencies, replicated by Reuters.

The North Korean president was received by Putin, with whom he would meet.
