The organizers of the Tokyo Olympic Games announced this Saturday that the fair to be held this summer will not will have visiting spectators from other countries, in what represents possibly the biggest blow to sports in the world by the COVID pandemic – 07 .
The decision, which comes a year after the organizers announced the postponement of the Games by one year, it was expected and applies to both the Olympics and the Paralympic Games. It is worth mentioning that in January there were rumors that Tokyo would cancel the Games , which would have been devastating for the country and for Olympism.
Not having visitors from other countries anyway is a painful blow for Tokyo and the Olympic movement.
The Tokyo Olympics 2020 -officially still called that- are scheduled from 23 July to August 8 . The Paralympics are scheduled from 24 August to September 5.
Less than 9, 000 people have died in Japan due to the pandemic, but not all of the Japanese can be vaccinated by the time the Games begin. Meanwhile, the vaccination of athletes has begun in some countries without there being an organized global plan for now.
The Olympic torch tour will start on 25 March.
