The emerging Saudi league does not have “the alcohol problem” that their players consume, but yes “the one with sugar”revealed this Thursday at a conference in Porto (Portugal) one of those responsible for Al Ittihad, the team where the Frenchman Karim Benzema plays.
“We don’t have a problem with alcohol, but we do have a problem with sugar. It is a tradition in Saudi Arabia to eat each a dessert that could be eaten by an entire team“said Sérgio Gomes, clinical director of the current champion of the Arab country, during a conference at the Thinking Football summit.
Gomes was one of the speakers at a talk on overcoming adversity in elite athletes, in which he mentioned some of the difficulties that players face in this championship, such as “extreme heat and high humidity.”
Furthermore, there is the issue of Ramadan, he added, which “It will lead to strategies in terms of training, nutrition, it will be quite a challenge.”
The Brazilian also attended this talk Robert CarlosReal Madrid legend, who assured that he currently acts as a “mentor” to the Real Madrid players, because today’s footballers are “more closed.”
“I have always been a good friend of the players and Real Madrid hired me for that. I’m basically a mentorso that the players who come from abroad adapt quickly to the club,” said the former full-back.
Carlos also highlighted the importance of “a good relationship between the technical team, the staff and the players,” because that “It makes for a better atmosphere up front.”
The other speaker, the Portuguese Emiliano Ventura, director of the MSi Bio Performance in Madrid, agreed with Roberto Carlos on the importance of having a good environment, emphasizing that “You have to be an athlete on and off the field.”
“It is not injuries that make athletes stronger, but the preparation and the environment. This whole topic of adversity is much simpler today. Athletes are much better informeds”, he defended.
“Athletes now work on their recovery the same way they work for the game,” he added.
The Thinking Football summit, which began this Thursday and ends next Saturday, is organized by the Portuguese league and features speakers such as Javier Tebas (president of LaLiga), Celta coach Carlos Carvalhal, and José María del Nido Carrasco, vice president of Seville, among others.
