Demetrius Andrade, former champion of two weight categories, assured that Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez it will not be difficult for him to take the victory against Jermell Charlo when he puts his undisputed super middleweight championship on the line on September 30 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
In an interview with FightHype, Andrade did not detract from Charlo, but explained that like Canelo Álvarez he has more power, defense and experience than the undisputed 154-pound champion He believes that the Mexican will have no problem dominating him.
“I’m not saying Jermell will be easy to get or anything like that. But when you look at the Brown boy he gave him a hard time and it took him two fights. Cinnamon he has a lot more power, a lot more experience, he has great defense and he’s getting better in some of their movements,” he said.
“Charlo is not the most athletic fighter out there, he is a direct guy. Canelo has been working on his movements and he knows how to counterattack well. So I don’t think it’s going to be too difficult for Canelo to get the win. But hats off to both guys for making it happen.”
Predictions on who could be the winner of the Canelo Álvarez vs. Jermell Charlo fight are increasingly divided. While some like Demetrius Andrade assure that the Mexican will win comfortably, others think that the American could surprise and put an end to the reign of the man from Guadalajara at super middleweight, since some sports experts affirm that he is in the decline of his career.
It should be noted that although the size will not be a problem, because in the promotional press conference it was possible to notice that the undisputed champion of 154 pounds looked bigger than the man from Guadalajara, which could put Charlo at a disadvantage against the Mexican It is the inactivity on the ring because he has not seen action for almost a year and a half due to an injury he suffered in his hand. But the American assured that he has remained active training to arrive in the best shape for the most important fight of his career.
Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, 33, defeated John Ryder by unanimous decision of the judges last May in Mexico after 12 years of absence from his land. The boxer from Guadalajara he has a record of 59 wins (39 by knockout) and two losses in his career.
For his part, Jermell Charlo, 33, last entered the ring in May 2022 when he defended his undisputed 154-pound championship by knocking out Argentine Brian Castaño in the rematch The American has a record of 35 wins, 19 on the fast track, one setback and one draw.
