The office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) carried out a 21-day mega-operation that allowed the detention of 366 immigrants undocumented.

According to an official report, the actions carried out from August 4 to 25, 2023were led by the office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), which is part of ICE.

Two types of undocumented immigrants were targeted– Priority fugitives and immigrants who had already been deported but re-entered the United States.

“Our ERO officers continue to prioritize the apprehension and removal of noncitizens who pose a threat to the national security, public safety, or border security of the United States,” said ERO Acting Executive Associate Director Corey A. .price. “This operation highlights the continued efforts of our officers to apply an organized and methodical approach to identifying, locating and arresting those who pose a danger to the communities we serve.”

He added that agents obtained and reviewed complete criminal and administrative records, as well as other information, to build cases and execute arrests.

The report adds that the detainees are, for the most part, identified with a conviction for certain felony crimes or convictions for other crimes, including, but not limited to, contract killing, manslaughter, sex crimes against children, assault with a firearm, assault, domestic violence, drug dealing, possession of a substance, and driving under the influence.

Such was the case of a 54-year-old Mexican citizen, arrested in Los Angeles, due to a California Superior Court conviction for a felony lewd act with a child under 14 years of age and a felony failure to register as a sex offender. in July 2023.

ICE did not specify how many immigrants were detained for immigration offenses alone and how many for their criminal past.
