The Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitching has been one of the weaker parts of the team this season. But now it could improve with the arrival of Walker Buehler, who is close to returning after more than a year out.

Buehler is scheduled to do a rehab session next Sunday against Triple-A Oklahoma. The right-hander is expected to go 1-2 innings, Dodger Insider reported.

Walker Buehler pitched just 65.2 innings in 2022 after straining a ligament in his right elbow which required Tommy John surgery.

The Dodgers’ starting staff has been incomplete with injuries to Dustin May (offseason), Tony Gonsolin (offseason), Noah Syndergaard (traded).

Clayton Kershaw and Julio Urías, two of the team’s best pitchers, have also had injuries.. With Buehler’s return, the Dodgers may have a big roster looking forward to a potential postseason run.

The 29-year-old right-hander made his last start on June 10, 2022. Since then, he’s been working his way back into the Dodgers’ rotation.

In the current season, the pitching rotation is made up as follows: Julio Urías, Clayton Kershaw, Lance Lynn, Ryan Yarbrough. The fifth pitcher is defined to be an opener, although with the arrival of Buehler it would be the first option.

Mookie Betts ends with a record month

Mookie Betts ended August on a high note with two home runs in an 8-7 loss to the Atlanta Braves.

The team utility man finished August with a .455 batting average with 51 hits, 11 home runs, 30 RBIs and 35 runs scored in 28 games last month.

The number of hits is an August record for the Dodgers franchise. Also, Betts is one home run away from the record for most home runs by a leadoff hitter.
