a suspect attacked two elderly people in separate incidents this week in the Whittier area, one of whom was stabbed to deaththe authorities reported.
In one of the incidents, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officers responded to a residence in the 15300 block of Goodhue Street in East Whittier.
When they arrived at the scene, they found an elderly man on the ground, who had apparent injuries caused by a knife. Emergency services confirmed that the victim, identified as 83-year-old Rolland Alexander, had died at the scene of the attack..

During a press conference this Wednesday afternoon, Sheriff Robert Luna showed video from a security camera showing the suspect who entered the victim’s residence through an unlocked door on the afternoon of this Monday.
Luna said that the subject hit the run a couple of minutes later in the victim’s vehicle, described as a silver Toyota RAV4, license plate number VHP289which was recovered in the city of Chino.
“Based on the surveillance video, we believe that the crime occurred on August 28 at approximately 2:45 pm,” Luna said.
Some security footage showed the victim’s vehicle in the Ontario area at approximately 3:00 a.m. Tuesday.the Los Angeles County Sheriff said. About three hours later, the car was found parked in Chino.

Luna mentioned that the authorities think that the suspect was driving the victim’s vehicle for a day and perhaps overnightso they requested that if anyone saw him anywhere between Whittier and the Ontario or Chino area, they notify homicide detectives immediately.
Investigators believe that a few minutes before the homicide, the same subject also assaulted another elderly person after entering through an open door at a residence in the 15500 block of Fernview Street, also in the city of Whittier.
This residence is located a few blocks from the home of the stabbed victimLuna said, adding that the suspect escaped when the old man’s son intervened.
Moon acknowledged that there is a risk to public safety.
“This individual committed at least two violent assaults against what appear to be two elderly individuals, and entered through an open door at both residences,” the Sheriff added.
The suspect was described as a male with facial hair and short hair, possibly in his 30s. He is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds..
The authorities they did not rule out that the suspect could be a homeless personwho was wearing dark pants and a tan shirt.
Neighbors of the area showed up concerned about violent events that occurred in the neighborhood, such as a homicide.
“I have lived here for 45 years and nothing like this has ever happened in our area,” a resident told ABC.
