President of the Government of Spain considers Luis Rubiales' apology for kissing Jennifer Hermoso “insufficient”

Jorge Hernandez

This Tuesday, the acting president of the government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, received the world champions in Moncloa, where he gave them an emotional speech and thanked them for achieving this achievement that made the whole country proud, but also where gave his opinion on the behavior of Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), who stole a kiss on the mouth from the player Jennifer Hermoso during the medal ceremony after the World Cup final.

“I think that what we saw was an unacceptable gesture, that Rubiales’ apologies are not enough, they are not even adequate, he has to continue taking steps to clarify what we saw“, Sánchez expressed to the press after the event with the players.

It should be remembered that one day before, Rubiales apologized in an unusual way, normalizing this behavior within the federation due to the good relationship that exists with the soccer player, added to the effusiveness of the moment and, saying that, practically, he was forced to apologize to those who saw him badly from the outside.

“We saw it as something natural, normal, and not at all in bad faith. It seems that there has been a stir. Of course, if there are people who have felt damaged by this, I have to apologize, there is no other choice.”, he can be heard saying in the video that the RFEF released on Monday.

Dismissing Luis Rubiales would be a decision of the RFEF General Assembly

Returning to the president’s statements, Sánchez lamented that behavior such as that of the RFEF president “shows” that in Spain there is still a long way to go in terms of equality and equalization between women and men.

AND Regarding a possible dismissal of Rubiales, the president of the acting government recalled that it is the members of the General Assembly of the Federation who could remove him.

The emotional speech of the president to the world champions

Moments before, Pedro Sánchez, shared some moments with the players who achieved the feat of lifting the World Cup and he dedicated some emotional words to them to let them know how proud they should feel and the responsibility they have for inspiring new generations.

“What you have obviously achieved is formidable, being world champions, but also something very important is that the girls who are watching you see football as a place where they can develop both sportingly and personally, you are a reference. That for an athlete is a tremendous pride and honor“He commented in one of the key phrases of his speech.

“Spain is proud of you. I thank all of you, from the bottom of my heart, on behalf of Spain, for what you have done, how you have done it and how you have made us enjoy”, he added.
