The Leagues Cup It’s over, but there is still some criticism in the air about the organization of the tournament. Major League Soccer clubs dominated the competition. Nashville and Inter Miami played for the cup that ended up staying with Lionel Messi’s team. One of the main proposals for the next edition is that the tournament is also played in Mexico. But the commissioner Don Garber disagrees with that.

Amid the disappointment of the Aztec clubs for their performance in the Leagues Cup, some analysts They argued the reasons for the great failure of Mexican soccer. One of them was related to the permanent locality of Major League Soccer clubsr, since the entire tournament is played on US territory. However, these complaints would have no effect. From the MLS they would not be willing to give up their status as organizers of the cup.

“I don’t think it should compete with the Champions Cup and I think once you start having home and away it starts to look like that. I’m not sure if that’s the best for the two leagues and our confederation (CONCACAF)”, Don Garber responded to the demand to share venues in the next edition of the Leagues Cup. This testimony was compiled by France 24.

In the United States there are more benefits

Don Garber did not stay in a simple opinion. The MLS commissioner argued his position from the economic point of view, since he believes that in the United States the Leagues Cup will generate more profits. He also considers that this opens the possibility that Mexican fans living in the United States have the opportunity to see their teams.

“I think economically, it certainly makes sense to have it here in the United States. But I think it’s a great opportunity for Liga MX clubs to be able to give their fans who live in the United States the opportunity to see all their teams. Unlike two or three teams that are here summer after summer. so i think there is no reason to consider moving it, but? Let’s take a step back when it’s all over and look at everything,” she explained.

Despite the questions surrounding the tournament, the Leagues Cup met visibility expectations. A great help to that exhibition was the participation of Lionel Messi, but this ambitious tournament maintained a good quota of attention that it is worth putting in the balance so as not to interrupt future editions.
