Sean O’Malley established himself as one of the stars of the UFC by spectacularly knocking out Aljamain Sterling in the second round and snatch the bantamweight belt in the 292 edition that was held in Boston. ‘Sugar,’ as he is also known, also took home a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.

The fight did not have much action in the first round, as the fighters kept their distance. The former Jamaican champion landed some low kicks, while the American was more cautious and looking to land a good shot.

In the second round, Sean O’Malley wasted no time in waiting for the perfect moment to landing his powerful right hand that sent Aljamain Sterling to his knees. ‘Sugar’ went over the Jamaican fighter and punished him with the ground and pound until the referee stopped the fight.

In the Octagon interview following his impressive win, ‘Sugar’ praised Sterling as the best bantamweight in UFC history and He also took advantage of the moment to challenge the only fighter who has beaten him in the company. O’Malley called for his first title defense to be a rematch with Marlon “Chito” Vera, who also participated in the UFC 292 undercard, in December in Las Vegas.

It should be noted that the fighter Ecuadorian defeated him in 2020 by technical knockout after the now 135-pound champion of the UFC injured his right foot.

Sean O’Malley, 28, is the UFC bantamweight champion and has fought 11 fights in the organization headed by Dana White. The American He adds nine wins (six by knockout), one loss and one ‘no contest’ (fight without result).
