Óscar de la Hoya spoke about the death threat he received after the fight between Ryan García and Gervonta Davis, which is why he did not attend the press conference after the duel held last April and forced him to leave the T-Mobile Arena from Las Vegas.

In an interview with The Breakfast Club, De La Hoya explained that a person whispered in his ear to watch his back because something would happen that night and after the warning he panicked and asked his security guard to take him out of the place. He assured that his intention was not to abandon García and that she has always been there for him.

“I’ve been there for him the whole time. I was there for him all Vegas week this and that. I don’t know if you were there, but if you were there at the fight, it was crazy. It was crazy. I have never seen anything like it. I think the arena was packed with about 3,000 people… And after the fight, I’m walking around with my security guards. We’re like sardines trying to get out, and I hear this voice. ‘Watch your back. It will happen tonight'”, said.

“I immediately panicked like ‘oh sh*t, I just got threatened.’ So I told Hopkins to go to Ryan’s dressing room, and all my execs were in Ryan’s dressing room. and they were even on stage with him after the fight, but the fact that he wasn’t there…and now I’m the bad guy. I was just trying to get out of there, because when they say something like that in your ear. I had no idea who he was, I just told my security guard to get out of here,” he added.

Months after what happened, Ryan Garcia stated that felt abandoned by his team on the day he needed support the most because on April 22 he suffered his first loss in his career after being knocked out with a body blow from Gervonta Davis in the seventh round.

“I lost, I saw that everyone left me (…) After the fight, no one supported me. My team did not come to the press conference”, said the boxer in an interview with Bradley Martin.

This caused a break in the relationship between Óscar de la Hoya and King Ry, who exchanged strong messages on social networks. After discussion, the promoter filed a lawsuit against the Californian to fulfill the contract with Golden Boy Promotions and therefore now has no communication with Garcia.
