The Chivas del Guadalajaraled by the Serbian-Spanish Veljko Paunovic, achieved their first goal this Thursday in the Apertura 2023 tournament of Mexican soccer by defeat Necaxa 2-0 and reach the break for the Leagues Cup with nine points out of a possible nine.
On the third day of the championship, Fernando Beltran and Juan Brigido scored the goals that ensured Guadalajara the lead, before the Mexican clubs face the MLS teams in the Leagues Cup from July 21 to August 19, something that Paunovic set out to start the Opening.
Chivas reached nine units, five more than Toluca, second, that even if they win this Sunday against Juárez, they will not beat the Rojiblancos.
The first half belonged to Guadalajara, who took the lead at minute 24, with their first shot on goal of the game. ‘Nene’ Beltrán shot from midrange and made it 1-0 through goalkeeper Raúl Gudiño’s left post.
Necaxa tried to equalize in the second half, but Cristian González crashed into the right post of Miguel Jiménez the clearest of his team, after which Chivas sealed the victory. At 84, Pavel Pérez, on the right, crossed a service into the area that Brigido scored for the final 2-0.
In another result this Thursday, the Santos Laguna and Atlas drew goalless.
The day before the Leagues Cup will continue this Friday with the visit of the Rayados from Monterrey to Mazatlán FC and of the Cruz Azul to Tijuana.
On Saturday, the San Luis will receive the Gallos Blancos del Querétaro, the Águilas del América to Puebla and the Tigres UANL to León. On Sunday the games will end when the Toluca to host Juárez FC and the Tuzos from the Pachuca of the Pumas UNAM.
