Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) Thursday not to take “unconscionable” steps to investigate flights of immigrants from Florida organized by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, after California Gov. , Gavin Newsom, the attorney general of that state, Rob Bonta, and the sheriff of Bexar County in Texas, Javier Salazar, will urge the Department of Justice to launch an investigation.

Moody, in a letter to the Justice Department, responded to California Democrats who urged an investigation of immigrant flights to California and Martha’s Vineyard ordered by DeSantis, claiming those trips were legal.

Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom and his state’s attorney general have called the airlift of immigrants ordered by DeSantis from New Mexico to Sacramento ?cruel? and a ?political trick?.

“California’s letter requesting that the US Department of Justice investigate Florida is a ridiculous political stunt,” Moody said in a statement.

“Our voluntary immigrant resettlement program is legal and the California application does not identify any violation of federal law. As the Attorney General who leads hundreds of highly-skilled attorneys and has led dozens of legal challenges against this administration, it is surprising that California is not competent enough to articulate even a minimal legal basis for your request,? Moody noted.

Florida’s attorney general said in her letter to the Justice Department that the state’s emergency management division has stated that all flights were voluntary and that the migrants gave their verbal and written consent and were transported to a third-party charity group. in California.

Ashley Moody, who was re-elected last year and is seen as a potential candidate for governor of Florida in the 2026 election, she has been a staunch and trusted ally of DeSantis and has supported his campaign for president.

She has sued President Joe Biden’s administration multiple times over immigration policy and has been highly critical of the president.
