When 2022 began, drug violence broke out in Colima, which caused the city to be classified as the most violent in the world during that year due to the number of homicides it registered. Although a new cycle began, the crimes did not stop and seven months into 2023, the Judiciary of that Mexican state decided to send its judges to work from home.
According to the site La Silla Rota, the Federal Judiciary has decided to return to work from home in Colima, due to four recent acts of violence. These incidents occurred in areas close to the facilities of the Criminal Justice Center, which has generated concern among magistrates and staff.
Last Sunday, around noon, two people were executed outside the Federal Criminal Justice Center, who had just left a hearing. These young people had been arrested the day before with drugs, chargers for different weapons and tactical vests, and a federal judge had determined their freedom.
Unofficial information indicated that the men arrested and executed as they left the center where they were taken were members of the Northeast CartelAlthough this information has not been confirmed by the authorities. In the same vein, it is rumored that his murder could have been perpetrated by hitmen belonging to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of the most powerful criminal groups in the state.
The other violent acts
Another case occurred on the same Sunday, July 9, when an attack was recorded against the patrol that was guarding the property where the judge lived. Uriel Villegas Ortizwho was assassinated in that same place, along with his wife, in 2021.
The third violent act is related to the first, because a lawyer who allegedly advised the men executed outside the courts was murdered inside his house. In said armed attack, the litigant’s son was also deprived of his life.
Finally, it was announced that on Monday, July 10, a suspicious man was observed hanging around the justice center facilities aboard a vehicle, but when he realized the presence of the police officers, he fled.
In addition to this, both the governor of Colima, Indira Vizcaíno Silva, and the mayoress of Manzanillo, Griselda Martínez Martínez, have made specific accusations against some federal judges, asking that they be investigated for their possible collusion with criminal groups.
