A judge has blocked a county watchdog’s investigation into alleged sheriff gangs for now. with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The LASD sheriffs’ union filed a lawsuit after the Office of the Inspector General ordered 35 officers suspected of being “banditos” or “executioners” to respond to questioning about gangs of sheriffs and to show their tattoos.

The judge, in his ruling, said that the county must negotiate with the sheriffs’ union before implementing significant changes to their jobssuch as forcing them to show their tattoos.

However, this ruling is only a precautionary measure, so the investigation can only be blocked while the employment issue is resolved.

“I am disappointed that the gangs of officers remain for now and hope the county appeals. It’s been a year and a half since California banned gangs without a meaningful police investigation,” said Inspector General Max Huntsman.
